Conductor Ingrid Kõrvits

Ingrid Kõrvits graduated from the Tallinn Music High School and the Tallinn State Conservatory, specializing in choral conducting. She is the artistic director of the Ellerhein Choir Studio and conductor of the Ellerhein Girls’ Choir. She also works at the Tallinn School of Music and Ballet as conductor of children’s and girls’ choirs, a teacher of choral conducting, and head teacher of the conducting department.

Since 2002, Ingrid Kõrvits has served as a chief conductor of the Estonian Song Festival. At the 2025 Song Festival “Iseoma,” she conducted selected women’s choirs, and at the upcoming 2028 Song Festival, she will conduct girls’ choirs. She has also served as a jury member at several national and international competitions, including the Euroradio Choir Competition Let the Peoples Sing, the Seghizzi International Choral Competition in Gorizia, Italy, and the European Grand Prix series Baltic Sea Choir Competition in Jūrmala, Latvia.

Kõrvits is dedicated to promoting choral music and conducting in Estonia. Many of her former students are now successful young conductors. With her choirs, she has won numerous awards and conductor prizes at international competitions. She has given lectures and conducted workshops at international symposia and festivals in Estonia, Hungary, Greece, the United States, and China, introducing Estonian choral music and the relative solmization method.

She has prepared her choirs for and participated in collaborations with professional orchestras and choirs, as well as renowned conductors and directors. Recent projects include performances with the Ellerhein Girls’ Choir at the Pärt Days festival in September 2025 with the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra under Olari Elts, and in October performances of Arvo Pärt’s Credo with the Estonian Festival Orchestra, the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, and the Estonian National Male Choir under Paavo Järvi.

Five CDs have been released under her direction: “Heliseb väljadel” (2009) and “Magnificat” (2015) with the Tallinn Music High School Girls’ Choir; “Songs of Light” (2017) and “Heavenly Songs” (2023) with the Ellerhein Girls’ Choir; and the score and CD of Mart Saar’s children’s opera The Lost Princess (2024).

In 2014, she received the Uno Järvela Conducting Scholarship from the Estonian National Culture Foundation. She was named Conductor of the Year by the Estonian Choral Association in 2010 and 2016. She has also received annual awards from the Estonian Cultural Endowment (2005, 2010, 2023). In 2025, she was awarded the Heino Kaljuste Foundation scholarship and the Gustav Ernesaks Grand Scholarship for choral music.
